Large Camel 1909: 2 m surcharge in black on 4 m. brown postal card, used uprated with 1902 2 m. green & brown, sent from Atbara to Paris, France, addressed to 'Theodore Champion', dated 10 February 1910, cancelled by the "ATBARA" circular datestamp, with "PORT SAID" bridge type transit alongside. To the reverse a business message from the 'Sudan Railway' and a received boxed cachet in violet dated 26 February 1910. Soiled in places, overall fine (H&G 9). A scarce example sent to a renowned philatelist.
Note: Théodore Champion (1873 to 1954) was a Swiss born philatelist and stamp dealer, who was added to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1937. He was also a famous cyclist. Champion was born in Geneva and took French citizenship in 1948 and lived in Paris.
