China, 1897 Small Surcharge on Dowager 1st printing 4c. on 4ca. rose-pink horizontal pair, variety imperforate between, cancelled by "Customs/Shanghai" double-ring d.s. of "Jan 2 1897" (day of issue) in blue, nice clear colour, characteristic centring to lower right, light uniform toning, otherwise very fine and appealing.
