lot # 70 - minhelet ha'am safad locals

Thursday Dec 01, 2016 00:00 Asia/Jerusalem

1948, Registered and express envelope sent from Safad to Haifa, posted on May15, 1948, franked with six postage stamps, forerunners of the interim period, "Haifa Technical Institute" vertical strip of three of 10 mils, green with black 'post' overprints applied at Haifa.  "Bialik and Herzl" vertical pair of 100 mils, dark blue with violet 'post' overprints applied at Tel Aviv, and 10 mils black Safad local postage stamp printed locally on envelope paper with blue Moire pattern, emergency issue , and all tied to the envelope by three strikes of the Safad bilingual c.d.s. struck in red, in Hebrew, "POST SAFAD" and in English, "5 MAY 1948"; also in front is a Safad registration label, and another express label; on reverse is a repeat of the dispatch of Safad, and the bilingual arrival at Haifa in May, 1948; a colour reproduction is on the reverse side of this certificate, reduced to 50% of true size, and I am of the opinion that it is genuine.
(1) The cover, six postage stamps affixed, and postal markings described above, are genuine in all respects. (2)The cover was posted on the fourth day of issue of the Safad local stamp, and arrived at Haifa on the second day of National Independence and the second day of the issuance of national postage stamps ("Doar Ivri"). (3) The envelope is in fine state of preservation, being absolutely complete, but showing two vertical filing creases which do not affect the postage stamps or postmark. The use of the 100 mils stamp (Bale #28) on cover is rare. A rare item in much above average condition. Expert, Sergio Sismondo.
