KG Covers, Picture Postcards & Banknotes - Special AuctionKazakhstan: Hybrid Test Note "Bluebird" produced in 2012 as cooperation between Landqart (paper mill Switzerland), Kazakhstan Security Printing Works (print) and Oberthur Fiduciaire (design). This beautifully designed note is printed on hybrid substrate called DURASAFE which consists of a polymer layer between two cotton layers. In this substrate are several types of windows (also a semi window through which you can see the polymer layer inside). OVI ink by Sicpa used for printing the bird on front. Intaglio printed on real banknote paper with watermark. This note is offered together with the 20 page color descriptive booklet containing a partial sheet of unprinted DURASAFE material already containing all security features as windows, watermark and security strip. The same type of material was used when producing the Morocco 25 Dirham note of 2012. Beautiful item. The note has some waves in paper at lower left. Condition: XF. This note with portrait of "Johannes Gutenberg" is offset printed on real and special banknote paper. This banknote paper is prodced by a mixture of polymer and cotton in one substrate called "SYNTHEC". This substrate makes the note more resistand against dirt and folding. This example has watermark and security stripe in paper. Dated 2005 it is a more rarely seen test note on the collectors market. Condition: UNC. One note is printed by KBA Giori with yellow OVI ink feature at upper right, several other UV active and TILT features as well as a serial number KK0000000001 on back side in black and red color. The second one is printed by KBA Notasys. The note is the same design but with different features as for example green OVI ink at upper right and missing serial number on back. The date of production is unknown but estimated between the 1970s and 1980s. The note with portrait of "Holzschuher" at right is intaglio printed uniface on real banknote paper and resembles to the issued banknote series in Germany from the 1960s to 1980s. It shows the denomination "100" and is printed in two colors, lilac and blue. There is a horizontal fold on the note. A rarely seen item on the collectors market. Condition: VF. This test note is rare because it was one of the first ever produced trials of "Hybrid" structure. This type is produced by three layers: 1 polymer layer between 2 layers of cotton banknote paper. On the polymer layer they printed a colored watermark. This is type 1 with portrait of a woman inside the note. This first attempt to produce a Hybrid banknote substrate was lateron not issued on a banknote what makes this test note a rare piece of banknote history. Produced with security strip in substrate. It is a special note as it is the Specimen type of a later presented Test Note. It is red overprinted with De La Rue Seals and the word "SPECIMEN" on both sides. Furthermore it has one additional security feature (OVI ink by Sicpa) on back side which was not any more used on the later presented note. The note has the ficitve denomination "50" and is horizontally designed on front, vertically designed on back. It is intaglio printed on real banknote paper with several security features. At left side on front the note has a broad holographic security foil, the same type that was later used on the banknote Kazakhstan 5000 Tenge 2011. Furthermore the note has a windowed security thread with imprint "E=MC2" and a watermark (portrait of Einstein) at right. Unique on the collectors market as Specimen. Condition: UNC. It has a windowed security thread in paper with microprinting inside. The note was a coproduction between the company Enschede, Merck Security Inks and Arjowiggins Security (paper producer).
