Es wurde 1867 in der Zion Reformed Church in Allentown, Pennsylvania gegründet. Das Allentown Female College hatte eine „Klassenstärke“ von neun jungen Frauen. Es zog innerhalb der Stadt mehrfach um. Die Ausbildung erfolgte unter Prägung des christlichen Glaubens. 1893 wurde es in Allentown College for Women umbenannt. The college, today known as Cedar Crest College and rated by Forbes Magazine to be one of the top ten liberal arts colleges for women in the United States, has a quite long history: In 1867 nine young women gathered in a classroom located in the basement of Zion Reformed Church in Allentown, Pennsylvania, finally being the first students of the recently established Allentown Female College. Later classes moved to the second floor of another building on Hamilton Street. In 1869 the institution moved to a two-acre campus at the intersection of Fourth and Turner Streets. Founded by the Reformed Church, the College promised a collegiate education in a Christian environment. In 1893 it changed its name to Allentown College for Women.
