lot # 89 - united states liberty cap half cents
1794 C-9 R2 High Relief Head PCGS graded AU55. Small Edge Letters. Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate offering excellent eye appeal. No roughness or verdigris, and the only notable marks are a very tiny chip on the jaw, two more in the field between the chin and bust, and a small nick at the dentil tips right of the date. Sharply struck LDS, Manley state 3.0. The die crack from the rim through the cap is strong and several dentils left of the fraction are fused by crumbling. The obverse is nicely centered on the defect-free planchet but the reverse is very slightly off center to the bottom leaving shorter dentils under the fraction. A beautiful example of the "High Relief Head" type. Our grade is EF40+.
Estimated Value $8,000-UP.
