With the exception of some issues from Damascus and al-Basra, Abd al-Malik b. Marwan's silver coins are all rare or very rare. Fasa, the second town in the Darabjird district of the province of Fars, lays on the road between Shiraz and Darabjird. At the time this coin was struck, Fasa was a large and important town. However, this appears to be the last coin issued by the mint until it was reopened briefly by the Buwayhids approximately three centuries later. The year AH 82 is the rarest of all the dates known.
