Sanjar, sultan indépendant, AH 511-552 (1118-1157). Dinar AH 515 (1122), Balkh. 2,49g. A 1687B. Une monnaie intéressante. Très bel exemplaire.
An extremely rare coin struck for Sanjar as independent sultan. The honeycomb type on the reverse is unusual in the history of both Islamic and world numismatics and was not recorded in the 1998 edition of Stephen Album's "Checklist of Islamic Coins". The quality of the dies’ engraving contrasts with the often crude appearance of the striking of this issue and with the inferior quality of the metal used. The long marginal legend "Nasr min Allah wafath qarib" ("The help of Allah is near") was often used in times of danger. It is therefore possible that this coin was struck under difficult circumstances, making the quality of this specimen all the more remarkable.
