1859: 1 s. blue, perf. 12 and 1860/63 1 d. bright green on thin glazed (Bordeaux) paper, perf. 12, a used horizontal pair on registered 1860 entire letter locally mailed within Geelong, cancelled by three bold strikes of "2" obliterators in black with "REGISTERED / GEELONG" cds (May 25) at left in red - the earliest recorded day of use of the 1 d. bright green. The entire with some file folds not affecting the delightful appearance. Cert. Perry (2006).rnrnNote: The reason for the unusual local registration can be found in the contents - the sender James Cowie, a future member of the Parliament of Victoria and a prominent local businessman, was being sued by the addressee, Alexander Sayers, and the letter was sent registered to provide proof of delivery.
