1855/1856 "Heinrich Schliemann": Two covers from Great Britain to the famous later archaeologist Henry (Heinrich) Schliemann in St. Pertersburg, Russia via Prussia, both with London 13 July 1855 resp. 1 Nov. 1856 despatch datestamps and with resp. charge marks (explained in detail on page).
>> Heinrich Schliemann became rich through large deliveries of munitions raw materials (lead, sulphur and saltpeter) to the Tsarist army in the Crimean War (1853–1856), cleverly circumventing the naval blockade by land: In his most economically successful year (1855), Schliemann was listed on the Petersburg Stock Exchange as the merchant with the highest trading turnover and a business volume of 1 million thalers.
