1850: Pre-philatelic 4-fold letter from ULAH, Mergui province, Burma to Calcutta, and forwarded to Nowgong, Assam, dated "Ulah, 1 November 1850", carried to Moulmein, handstamped with trisected "MOULMEIN/18..December.../Bearing..." d/s in black (similar to Proud's PS4, from which only one other strike is known), sent to Calcutta getting black "CALCUTTA/SHIPLETTER/1851 January.../Inland Bg./Ship Do./Total" squared d/s (Proud SR 49), red "CALCUTTA/1851 JAN. 2/WEIGHT...TOLA/PAID..." trisected d/s (Proud 27) and "FORWARDED/BY/ROBINSON, ... & Co./CALCUTTA" oval. The letter was written by Reverend D.L. Brayton, an American Baptist missionary. An interesting letter with the SCARCE MOULMEIN DATESTAMP. Catalog Price 300,00
