lot # 178 - Chile
1856/60: Santiago printing 10 c. sky-blue, remarkable usage of six horizontal bisects used to pay a 30 centavos rate (none of the six halves forms a complete stamp - thus the P.O. presumably per-cut the stamps), all tied to circa September 1858 cover front to Valparaiso with each individually tied by target handstamp in black. Believed to be the largest recorded usage of the 10 centavos bisects. Rare. Certs. Holcombe (1993), Moorhouse (2007).
