Colour Changes, Recess by De La Rue from Perkins Bacon Plates 1864 (Dec 27): 1 d. bistre, wmk. Crown CC sideways reversed, an unused block of thirty-six (positions 17-20/177-180), of delightful fresh colour, showing the top nine rows of the sheet and the radical displacement of the 9th row, this block printed from that part of the plate (vertical rows 16-20) used in making Transfers for producing the 4 d. lithographed plate. The block further shows, below the 6th horizontal row, a 10 mm. gutter with "no watermark", which in a sheet of vertical letterpress Colonial stamps printed by De La Rue would correspond with the space between the left and right hand panes of stamps. A delightful and rare multiple in the foremost quality, large part, mostly unmounted og. Gi = £ 3'240+.
