Colour Changes, Recess by De La Rue from Perkins Bacon Plates 1864/65: 6 d. indigo-violet, wmk. Crown CC, perf. 12½, a single example used 1869 cover to Brough, Yorkshire cancelled by the void obliterator in black. "NORTHAMPTON / WESTERN AUSTRALIA" cds at left (Oct 6) in black. A late use of the void obliterator (see below). Carried on the "Malta" to Galle, the "Candia" to Suez and from Alexandria via Malta on the "Delta". Small part of reverse flap missing, with Brough arrival cds (Dec 6) in black. A fine and very scarce cover.
Note: The P.O. at Wanerenooka closed down and was transferred to Northampton on 29 Nov 1866, taking with it the void grid obliterator used at the former Office. Whilst numbered cancellers were in use at this date, Northampton did not receive the number "35" until 1875.
