1865: 4 d. vermilion, plate 12, three singles, used on cover in combination with, 1869 6 d. mauve, plate 9 and two 1872 6 d. chestnut, plate 11, one with trimmed perfs. top and the other a pulled perf., sent from London to Hong Kong, dated 23 August 1872, tied by London E.C. '74' duplex in black, endorsed 'Overland Mail / via Brindisi'. To reverse a faint Hong Kong arrival double circle in black (Sept.). A unique mixed franking for the 6 d. chestnut colour. A Gold Standard cover.
Note: One other cover bearing a 6 d. mauve, plate 9, in combination with 6 d. pale buff, plate 12 (2), used to Palermo, Sicily is ex Ernest Hunt (1966) and ex J.O. Griffiths (1981).
