lot # 5250 - sudan ganzsachen
Large Camel 1917: 3 m. reddish purple postal card, uprated with 1921 2 m. green & brown and 5 m. scarlet & black (faults), used from Western Darfur to North Wales, England, redirected to Devon, dated 17 October 1921 (location & date on reverse note), cancelled by a retta diamond dumb mark in black, with a "EL FASHER" circular transit mark in black dated 28 October 1921, as well as a "MAERDY" Welsh cds dated 1 December 1921.Creasing in lower portion and a mild bend between the two adhesives, otherwise fine. An uncommon card sent at the 10 m. foreign rate for postcards. Scarce card and rare used.
Note: It has been speculated that this card comes from not overprinted remainders of the overprinted 3 m. cards issued in 1907. However, the colour and shade are very different from this issue and from the De La Rue printing records we know that printings of 3 m. cards were invoiced in November 1916, December 1917, November 1918 (2) and finally December 1919, but the colour is not mentioned. It is most likely that this was issued in 1917.
