City Despatch Post 1842: 3 c. black on greyish, a fine used example with large even margins all round, on entire letter to a Miss Violetta Marsh, 22 Wooster Street, New York tied by circular "CITY DESPATCH POST"datestamp (Feb 13) in red, under a fortnight after the issue of the first adhesive stamp of the United States. Delightful Valentine's Day message inside "To Violetta, I love thee for thy innocent and unaffected pride, I love thee for that sweet content, which ever seems thy guide, I love thee for that smile of thine and for thy words of truth, and for thine eyes that brightly shine, thy beauty and thy worth". Some minor file fold splits but a charming and rare entire.
