French Post Office in Aleppo 1862 (Oct 25): Ingoing Entire letter from Görlitz, Prussia via Triest, Beirut & Alexandretta to the French P.O. in Aleppo, endorsed first "Voie de Marseilles" but crossed out, struck on despatch by framed GOERLITZ datestamp in black (Oct 25), reverse with transit TRIESTE, obverse with transit cds's "BEYRUT 15 NOV" of the Austrian and "BEYROUTH SYRIE 29 NOV 62" of the French P.O., reverse with "ALEXANDRETTE SYRIE 1 DEC 62" cogwheel transit cds, all in block, upon arrival two line "POSTE FRANÇAISE / D’ALEP“ handstamp in blue. Ink bite and heavy cover's wear and tear due to the pelure paper, nevertheless an interesting combination of Prussian, Austrian, Lloyd, and French services.
Note: The original weight of the entire was noted to to be 1 1/10 loth, ie. in the second weight rate, the reverse shows '40' soldi general pre-1866 Levant rate. The cover was obviously paid until the Austrian P.O. in Beirut. The receiver had to pay '20' déccimes.
