French Post Office in Smirna 1839: Cover front and part back from Smirna to Boston, USA mailed at French PO with "SMYRNE / (TURQUIE)" cds in black, slitted for disinfection in transit with circular "PURIFIÉ AU LAZARET / MALTE" in black on reverse, thence to Forwarding Agent Wooley, Bell & Co. in Liverpool with "SHIP LETTER / ♚ / LIVERPOOL" in red (Oct 18) and paid there at 2/8½d. rate. Carried on "Great Western" from Bristol to Boston again prepaid at 1 shilling by the Forwarding Agent. Imperfections but rare.
