Civil War Letters With Interesting Content Discussing Politics, Morals and Military Action. ND (ca.1861-65), Lot of 2 Civil War Letters and Cover Union Pennsylvania Volunteers. Letters with patriotic cover, written by John S. Nimmon. (Nimmon, of Fannettsburg was a 3 year veteran of the War Between the States. He was also a Quartermaster of the 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He enlisted on August 31, 1861 and rose through the ranks from 1st Sergeant to Major by May of 1865). Letters discuss various skirmishes and armaments from both sides. Mentions “Frank or James and a “Negro” shot two of the soldiers wounding them severely but not mortally.” “…while his men 2 who were along used the bayonets, one of the soldiers was shot in the fray by the Lieutenant… three wounded soldiers and a dead “n-gger”. “ “The Virginians are firing into it “the town” and the chaps are returning it… Depicts a bloody time in our nation’s past and includes much more interesting reading as well as being relatively well written and thought out.

Wells Fargo Gold Rush Era Shipping Receipt, 1859 from San Francisco to NY Shipping "Human Remains". Wells Fargo shipping receipt dated October 28th 1859. Wonderful “Clipper Ship” Vignette. This receipt records the shipment of “One box of Human Remains” sent from San Francisco, CA. to New York. Receipt is in Very Fine Condition (9) very minor centralized pinholes on left side not into the design. (2) mounting remnants on verso mentioned for accuracy

Civil War Letter Written by 16th Regiment Volunteer from Camp in New Orleans in 1863. New Orleans, Louisiana. 1863, Civil War Letter with matching Cover from Private George C. Andrews, 16th New Hampshire Infantry. Letter to his father of June 22, 1863. “Dear Father I will try to writ you a few lines It is with a sad heart that I attempt to write Poo Abner is dead he died on the fourth day of June up to Brashear City. His money and things I don’t know what was dun with them… an Over coat… and a pair of Patns… “ I gow with Prisoners … the rest had not gon to Port Hudson… guarding Genl Banks hed quarters…” Historic representation of this sad time in the history of this country.

All are printed on United States Treasury (5) or Office of Assistant U.S. Treasurer letterheads (2), content relates to unpaid checks that will be stopped. The letters were signed by Charles Clinton, A.T. and one by John Walton, A.T., All are addressed to the U.S. Comptroller of Currency in Washington. Mostly fine to VF. Written during the heart of the post Civil War reconstruction period in the south.

James A. Garfield Memorabilia Including Presidential Election Ticket for President with Chester A. Arthur. Republican National Ticket flier “James A. Garfield for President”. Contains split archivally backed. Brochures exhibit minor toning. Included are speeches delivered by Hon. James A. Garfield, of Ohio: “The Currency” outlines his abhorrence for fiat “paper” money; “The Campaign of the Reserve”. July 31, 1872; “The New Scheme of American Finance” March 6, 1878; Speech decrying the Weaver amendment. Its declaration that “all currency,.....should be issued and its volume controlled by the Government, and not by or through the bank corporations of the country". These items are financially significant views in our nations fiscal and financial history. “What is old is new again…”
