Union Cattle Co., 1886 Bond. Wyoming, 1886, $1,000. 10-year sinking fund gold bond. Issued and uncancelled. Gold foil seal. Brown border with steer sticking head out from under title. w/ partial coupons, XF. William Sturgis (1842-1936) served with the Union forces of the Civil War. In 1872, William and Thomas Sturgis in partnership with Gorham B. Goodell formed Sturgis, Goodell & Co., which raised cattle in Laramie County, Wyoming. William and Thomas helped to organize the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and William served as assistant secretary. He was secretary of the Laramie County Stock Association three years after it was organized and served for eleven years; he was one of the most influential men in the area's cattle business.
