lot # 253 - united states liberty cap cents
1794 S-43 R2 NGC graded VF25. Glossy medium chocolate brown and darker olive with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. No corrosion or verdigris, but there is a small planchet chip in the field before the eye. There are several old, light scratches on both sides, and the only one of those that is visible to the unaided eye is a diagonal scratch through the N in UNITED. The only other notable mark is a rim bruise right of the Y in LIBERTY. MDS, Breen state IV early. The die crack through the U is bold and the reverse is rotated 45 degrees CW. The reverse is slightly misaligned to K-4 causing strike weakness at ERICA but everything else is strong. Our grade is F12+ sharpness net VG10. The attribution and Conour provenance are shown on the NGC label.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex Jack Conour Collection (via Shawn Yancey 10/13/2013).
