lot # 360 - united states draped bust cents
1800/798 NC-6 R6+ Overdate 800 over 798, Style I Hair G5+. A point or two sharper but there are traces of microscopic roughness on otherwise smooth surfaces. The roughness is most noticeable at OF AMER where there are microscopic traces of greenish verdigris, but it is not distracting. Both sides show some light contact marks, all consistent with the grade. The notable ones are a light rim bruise at the N in UNITED and a dull diagonal nick over the N in ONE. Mostly glossy dark chocolate brown and steel mixed with some lighter chocolate brown on the obverse. The date and legends are complete and clear and the repunching on the base of the F in OF is obvious. In addition the upper edge of the ends of the wreath stems slants down, which is diagnostic for this rare variety. Not perfect but very close to net G6. Graded VG7 net G5 by Noyes and Bland, Noyes photo #28576. Tied for CC#6 honors and only a single example is known that grades better than VG7 among the 15 examples known.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
