1905, Order of Pope Saint Sylvester (Ordo Sanctus Silvestri Papae), knight, miniature, Miniature white enamel Maltese cross with graduated gilt rays between the arms, on scroll and eyelet for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central blue enamel medallion bearing the gilt head and shoulders full-face portrait of Pope Saint Sylvester wearing the Papal crown within a gilt ring inscribed ‘SANC. SILVESTER P. M.’; the reverse plain; diameter 15.96mm (0.63 inch); on replaced correct ribbon. The Order of Saint Sylvester was instituted by Pope 1905, Gregory XVI on 31 October 1841 and reformed, along with all other Papal orders, in 1905. It is awarded to laymen and women who are active in the life of the Church, especially those who advance its cause and welfare in their professional lives. Saint Sylvester was Pope for 21 years, from January 314 until 31 December 335 at a time when Constantine the Great was Emperor and the position of the Church improved significantly.
