JAPON. 1880. Native ornamented cover bearing Old Koban 1 s. and 4 s. (Sc 58, 68) tied by TOSA-KOCHI MAY 22 cds (nijiumaru type) to SHANGHAI, China. Nagasaki May 31 transit cds and IJPA Shanghai Jun 2 received cds on front. Early use of this native style cover to China is highly unusual, as most were of western style. A very rare cover with clear cancels.

JAPON. 1919 (Jan 1). 1½s. green on buff ´Horseman´ stationery card cancelled by bold strike of TINIAN-MARIANA ISLANDS (8.1.1.) native cds (Japanese Year 8 = 1919) in black. One or two small imperfections but a superb strike of a very rare cancellation.
