Stampless Postal History, 1843 (October 12): folded letter to Lyon, France, postmarked with Quebec double split-ring and clear "PAID AT QUEBEC" crown circle, endorsed “per Halifax & Liverpool” in manuscript, with PAID OC 10 tombstone transit and Boulogne entry mark on front (1 Nov), Paris and Lyon c.d.s. backstamps, the latter partially cut out from opening of letter, a fine and scarce example of this crown circle on a letter to France....

Stampless Postal History, 1851 (December 21): folded letter to Madeira, postmarked with Montreal double split-ring, rated 2/10 (sterling) or 3/2 (currency), endorsed "per Steamer to L`Pool", carried from Boston via the Cunard "Niagara", thence from London by packet steamer to Tenerife, struck with black "160" (reis) collect, a a remarkably fresh cover to an exotic destination.

Stampless Postal History, 1856 (29 September): cover from Montreal, prepayed 10d. (currency, 8d. Sterling), to Plymouth, England, the "10d" perhaps mistaken for the cross-border through rate and conveyed instead to Plymouth, New York, carried thence via the Ocean Line "Washington", struck with circular "MORE TO PAY" a charged 6d., red PAID (18 Oct) c.d.s. on front and next-day Plymouth arrival backstamp, an unusual and charming cover.
