Sicily, Syracuse. Second Democracy. Silver Tetradrachm (17.32 g), 466-405 BC. Ca. 450-440 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with wreath. Reverse: ΣVRAKOΣI-ON, head of Arethusa right, hair bound in thin bands; around, four dolphins clockwise. Boehringer series XVib, 571 (V287/R391); SNG ANS 184 (same dies). Lightly toned with underlying luster present. Extremely Fine.
