1849, entire folded letter written as a diary from 5 March 1849 to 30 April 1849 from the Royal Observatory Capetown to England, with crowned oval "GPO Capetown", vermilion "London 20 JY 1849" transit on reverse, same day Bedford arrival in blue. - Letter giving account of daily life including details of the visit of the son of the Sultan of Oman on a voyage to deliver horses to Queen Victoria, the son was mistaken for a servant. - Complete typewritten transcript enclosed.
