1905, 21 June, USA, Railway accident at Mentor, Ohio, cover from Minneapolis, Minn. 20.6. to Stuttgart/Germany with label "Post Office, Boston, Mass. / The enclosure was damaged in the wreck of the "20th Century Linited" train on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern R.R., that occurred at Mentor, Ohio, Wednesday, June 21, 1905. / GEO. A. HIBBARD, Postmaster.", and upon arrival officially sealed by Stuttgart P.O. with label "Mit beschädigtem Umschlag eingegangen, deshalb amtlich verschlossen...". The accident took place about 9.20 p.m., the train no. 26 with engine no. 4686 and five cars (thereof four sleeping cars) was travelling at full speed, 60-70 mph, when it hit an open switch at Mentor station and derailed. It was telescoped, and coals from the the fire box immediatelly ignited the baggage/buffet car behind the engine.
