1 d. black, plate 1b, lettered DF - DL / EG - EL, block of thirteen, good to large margins at top and right, the lower strip cut into in places, cancelled with black Maltese Cross, impressions DF-DH showing the roller flaw in NW star, DF with burr rub on "NE" of "ONE", EJ with coincident re-entry, and EK with twisted re-entry, flaws at upper left corner of DF, vertical crease in margin of third row, and various repaired faults at foot of bottom strip, but a rare block despite these flaws, believed to be the largest used multiple from this plate Gi. AS5 = £54'000+.
Provenance: Phillips, London, 29 March, 1990, lot 300, showing the block as it appeared before the removal of the damaged lower left stamp (EF). From a sensational original find in 1990 together with a penny black, plate 8, unused block of six.
