Colour Changes, Recess by De La Rue from Perkins Bacon Plates 1864/65: 6 d. violet, wmk. Crown CC, perf. 12½, a horizontal pair used on 1870 double rate cover to London tied by Bowra circle and bars numeral "5" obliterators in black with corresponding "GUILDFORD / WESTERN AUSTRALIA" cds at left (Aug 16) in black. Carried on the "Malta" to Galle, the "Simla" to Suez and the "Delta" from Alexandria via Malta to Southampton, arriving 8th October. "London / Paid" cds in red on obverse (Oct 10). Typical edge wear and top flap missing but an attractive cover.
