1857: 1 d. red, perf. 14, wmk. large crown, in combination with 1870 1 d. red, plate 143, perfs trimmed in places, 1884 ½ d. slate-blue, 'N' perfin, and 1900 ½ blue-green, used on a registered cover, from London to Wigan, dated 20 March 1901, tied by a London registered oval in black. To the reverse a Bishopsgate dispatch cds in black. There is a tear into envelope on right side towards top, not affecting stamps. Unique mixed franking. Although presumably philatelically inspired, it is the correct rate. Rare; one of eight known. Also comes with a cover franked with a 1 d. penny star used with 1 d. penny plate.
