French Post Office in Jaffa 1854 (Oct 19): Entire letter from Jaffa to Marseille, dated inside, endorsed "Par le Scamandre", struck by superb cursive handstamp of “Jaffa” in black (Pothion = 32 points / Livnat no 1), reverse with “ALEXANDRIE EGYPTE” transit and MARSEILLE arrival cds’s (Oct 30) in black. Part of back and tiny piece at the top of the front are missing due to the effects of humidity, nevertheless a perfect strike of the elusive handstamp in use between 1852-1854. Taxed upon arrival with ‘10’ décimes.
