French Post Office in Smirna 1853: France 10 c. bistre and 40 c. orange (2), each with four margins, used on 1862 single rate cover from Smirna to Amsterdam, Netherlands, tied by 'Anchor' lozenge of dots with 'PHASE' French Paquebot datestamp alongside (March 7) struck in blue. Framed 'PD' in blue and small cartridge "Paquebots / de la / Mediterranee" in red and Marseille (March 12) transit cds on reverse with Amsterdam arrival (March 14) in red. A scarce cover.
