lot # 345 - united states draped bust cents
1798 S-165 R4 Large 8, Style II Hair F15. Five points sharper but there is a patch of microscopic roughness hidden in the hair near the ear. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only marks are a couple light contact marks under LI and into the hair, a rim nick under the 79, and a light rim bruise under the right side of the denominator. Rather glossy steel and olive brown blended with reddish chocolate toning in the hair were the microscopic roughness resides. Nicely struck MDS Breen state II, with die clashmarks at the throat but an uncracked reverse. The second T in STATES was first punched inverted, then corrected, and the top of the inverted T is clear. A nice example of a variety that's difficult to find in grades better than VG.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
