lot # 380 - united states draped bust cents
1801 NC-3 R6+ Error Fraction 1/000 G5. Clipped Planchet. Sharpness F12 or a bit better but both sides are covered with moderate granularity. No verdigris. The only mark is a dull scratch across the center of the neck into the hair, and this mark is mostly hidden in the roughness and toning. Slightly glossy chocolate brown. The date and legends are complete and clear. A small, curved planchet clip over BE in LIBERTY just touches the top of that E and reaches the base of the dentils under the error (1/000) fraction. Not perfect but still comparable to the Breen plate coin for this very rare variety. Only 15 examples are known and the finest grades VG8.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
