lot # 594 - united states liberty cents
1845 N-1 R4 VF35+. Sharpness EF45 but there is a light scratch that skips from star 8 across the highpoints of the hair to over the T in LIBERTY where it fades out. Otherwise there are only a few light contact marks on the obverse, none notable. Glossy steel brown and light chocolate with a small splash of reddish steel at the AM in AMERICA. Sharply struck LDS, die state b. The short lines from the dentils under star 1 are gone and the fields are slightly reflective thanks to a fresh die lapping. A shallow low spot caused by debris (probably grease) on the die rests against the hair under the left point of star 7. Removed from an ANACS slab graded EF45 (ANACS label #4116055 included).
Estimated Value $75-UP.
Ex Nick Gampietro, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/2010:527 (lot ticket included).
