lot # 289 - united states draped bust cents
1796 S-82 R5 Liberty Cap F12+. Sharpness VF20 but extremely fine roughness covers much of the planchet, although the devices on the obverse are smooth. No verdigris and only a few minor contact marks. The notable ones are a couple faint scratches over NIT in UNITED, a pinprick over the first T in STATES, and a small rim nick right of the fraction. Partially glossy chocolate brown and olive. Sharply struck except for weakness at UNITED and on the bottom of CEN. The date is bold and the legends are complete. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks or clashmarks.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
Ex Fred H. Borcherdt 3/2001-Dan Trollan.
