1843: Official cover to Wandoo Vale, Mount Rouse endorsed "OHMS" at top and "p. Diana", struck with fine framed "FREE / MELBOURNE" handstamp in red and counter-signed at lower left by Charles La Trobe. Reverse with oval "MELBOURNE / ♚ / NEW S. WALES" in black (Oct 25). A fine cover.rnNote: Charles La Trobe was appointed Superintendent of the District of Port Phillip. After separation in 1851 he was named Victoria's first Lieutenant-Governor. The addressee, John George Robertson arrived in Melbourne in February 1840 and took up the Wandoo Valley run, near present-day Casterton. The "Diana" departed Melbourne for Portland on October 26, 1843.
