Auction 333-341 Europe & Overseas Americas (North, Central & South America) - Day 1

Recess by Desmadryl 1854 (Feb): 5 c. hazelnut-brown, a used marginal block of four in rich, distinctive colour with exceptionally large margins on three sides, just touched in places at left, and marginal inscription "...tar del cimento" at base, tied by four clear strikes of a black "target" cancel to entire folded letter dated "Copiapo marzo 6/1856" and endorsed "por Vapor" to Valparaiso. A spectacular block and, in this shade, the only such franking recorded on an entire letter. Cert. Philatelic Foundation (1997).
