Stampless Postal History, 1833 (August 29): folded letter from York to London, on double foolscap sheet endorsed "single sheet", rated "9" and "25" in manuscript, boxed handstruck PAID in red alongside, with further "1/8" below, denoting the incoming ship letter fee plus 1s. from St. Mawes to London, postmarked with "York / UP-CAN" c.d.s. (2 Sep), and struck with fine "SHIP LETTER / ST MAWES", reverse with red London arrival c.d.s. (4 Oct), unusual wax seal on reverse showing embossed portrait, some discoloration around edges, an otherwise fine example of this difficult ship letter marking, scarce on mail from Canada.
