1882 (Dec): £ 1 brown-lilac, plate 1, lettered EB, on blued paper, wmk. Large Anchor, perf. 14, a used example, cancelled by a fine upright full strike of the Vere Street squared circle in black (OC 12 1883), hint of a blue mark lower right B square, of fresh appearance, strong colour. Rare stamp Gi J127 = £ 6'500.
Note: The adjoining stamp lettered EA sold at Grosvenor, 11-12 November, 2010, lot 906, and also had a Vere Street cancel, although it was a cds. However, the date and code E are exactly the same.
