lot # 995 - British Commonwealth
Cape of Good Hope 1855 4d triangular deep blue on white paper, 2 margins. Part "cancelled" in oval h/s. One of the examples Perkins Bacon especially obliterated & presented to Ormond Hill (son of Rowland Hill) in 1861. Only 2 examples are recorded & illustrated by Peter Jaffe in "Cancelled by Perkins Bacon" (one of which is in the Royal colln). This is therefore a 3rd. He suggests that there were probably three squared pairs. From the configuration of the h/s this is from the 3rd pair. A spectacular recently discovered item. RPSL cert (2019). SG 6a var. Cat £20,000.
