1905, 21 June, USA, Railway accident at Mentor, Ohio, two entires from Chicago to New York, each with label "POST OFFICE, NEW YORK, N.Y. / The enclosure was damaged in the wreck of the "20th Century Linited" train on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern R.R., that occurred at Mentor, Ohio, Wednesday, June 21, 1905. / WILLIAM R. WILLCOX, Postmaster.". The accident took place about 9.20 p.m., the train no. 26 with engine no. 4686 and five cars (thereof four sleeping cars) was travelling at full speed, 60-70 mph, when it hit an open switch at Mentor station and derailed. It was telescoped, and coals from the fire box immediately ignited the baggage/buffet car behind the engine.
