1856, Letter from Windau [Ventspils] in present-day Latvia, then Russia, with bilingual double-circle postmark "WINDAU JULY 1856" to Middlesex / Upper Canada. On the front frame transit stamp "Aus Russland" (Feuser No. 136), transit stamp Liverpool (L JY 27 A) and several tax notes. Prussian frame stamp "MEMEL / 22 7" and two London transit stamps on the reverse. Sent via Liverpool aboard the Cunard Line ship "Canada" to Boston and then on to Upper Canada (Ontario). Pre-philatelic transatlantic mail from the Baltic is rare, to Canada possibly unique. ÷ 1856, Brief aus Windau [Ventspils] im heutigen Lettland, damals Rußland, mit zweisprachigem Doppelkreis-Abgangsstempel "WINDAU JULI 1856" nach Middlesex / Upper Canada. Vorderseitig Rahmen-Transitstempel "Aus Russland" (Feuser Nr. 136), Transitstempel Liverpool (L JY 27 A) und mehrere Taxvermerke. Rückseitig preußischer Rahmenstempel "MEMEL / 22 7" und zwei Londoner Transitstempel. Versendet über Liverpool an Bord des Schiffes "Canada" der Cunard-Linie nach Boston und dann weiter nach Upper Canada (Ontario). Vorphilatelistische Transatlantikpost aus dem Baltikum ist selten, nach Kanada möglicherweise Unikat.
