British Colonies Samoa, cover sent by Prince Luigi Amedeo of Savoy, Duke of the Abruzzi, to his friend mountaineering guide Francesco Gonella in Torino Italy. After Samoa he would go to Vancouver to start organizing the North Pole expedition which he would do in 1900. The cover was franked with 5 pence red (Michel n 18) killed by dc APIA - SAMOA 1/1/1896, on back dark-violet-brown sealing wax with head of a Samoan king, shield and initials FERT of Princely House of Savoy. DEFINITELY RARE COVER.
