1811 (17 Nov) FL from Sydney to Stirling "Per Ship Thomas", rated 2sh on arrival, with "2/", with 'MA/ C 13/812 transit backstamp and "MY/1812/16" cds of Edinburgh in red on front, the brief holograph letter signed "MC OConnell/Lt Col Comdg 1st Battn/73rd Regt", filing fold, fine (Maurice Charles O'Connell commanded the 73rd Regiment that arrived in 1809 with Governor Macquarie, who appointed him Lieutenant-Governor. He married former Governor Bligh's daughter. In 1814, O'Connell & his regiment sailed for Ceylon, but he returned to Sydney in 1838, as Major-General Sir Maurice O'Connell, in command of the military forces in NSW)
