First Issue, Overprinted at top 1903 (June 1): India 2 a. pale violet, a single example used on 1904 cover (Govt. of India crest on reverse) to the Clarance Barracks of the Hampshire Regiment at Portsmouth tied by "Berbera / Somaliland" cds (May 31) in black. Reverse with Portsmouth (June 11) arrival cds's. Carried at the civilian rate even though the sender, Sergeant W. Eade, was serving with the 1st.
