Chalons 1876/79: Chalons, recess printed, the unused collection on leaves (34 items), wmk. Crown over Q, perf. 12, with shades including 1 d. orange-vermilion or rose (9) iuncl. a horizontal pair, 2 d. blue, Plate II (7) with a horizontal pair and an example overprinted SPECIMEN diagonally in black, 3 d. brown (3) one with watermark inverted, rare lithographed 4 d. yellow (1st Transfer) with two examples: one reperforated (not incl. in catalogue figure) and the other with removed stain but both eminently presentable examples (this last ex Alan Griffiths, lot 1091), 4 d. buff-yellow (2nd Transfer) of fine colour but perfs. erratic at left, 6 d. green (5), 1 s. mauve (6) with fine single examples and a reprinted pair, 1879 no wmk. 1 s. mauve with two examples, generally fair with some vers fine, a scarce group Gi = £ 7'200+.
