1864: 1 d. lake, wmk. Crown CC, perf. 12½, surcharged ONE PENNY with Thin Bar (A), two used examples in combination with 1863 4 d. carmine, imperforate with clear to large margins all round, on underpaid but accepted 1865 cover to Marseille, tied by dotted cork obliterator in black. Oval framed "ST. HELENA" datestamp above (June 20), thence with "London / Paid" cds in red and Calais entry marking (July 18) in black. Marseille arrival cds (July 19) on reverse. Including an article by Hibbert from The Philatelist' (April 1970) where he conjectures the under-payment was due to the stamps all being of the same colour.
